Roy Rogers and Trigger #123 |
Roy Rogers and Trigger v1 #123, 1958 - Cattle rustling, claim jumping and an accidental death all play a part in this
Alex Toth's lead feature. While many of the characters' faces are loosely rendered (except Roy Rogers'), the artist puts much of his effort in the surrounding foliage of the valley setting. His combination of pen- and brushwork have a fine textural quality throughout. The Toth interior page above shows a mastery of using light and dark areas to heighten drama.
Russ Manning's first work on the series is about two young sons of a local rancher, and their run-in with an outlaw. The tale quite a bit shorter, but no less polished than the main feature. Photo cover. This is 1 of 15
