Ronin v1 #1, 1983 - Frank Miller does an exceptional job writing and drawing his first creation for DC. The plot intertwines two characters from two different eras: a masterless Samurai from ancient Japan and a quadriplegic from the dismal future. Miller's penchant for Japanese culture appears in earlier comics, but here it plays a central role. He juxtaposes old and new, organic and man-made, technology and sorcery in masterful new ways. For Ronin's first issue, Miller's eloquent page designs are supplemented by no less than seven two-page spreads. - - - - - - - - - -
