Fantastic Four v1 #86, 1969 - Dr. Doom's new robots run amok, targeting the small village where the powerless FF resides. Jack Kirby's merely adequate cover segues into two dramatic splash pages. The first captures the heroes' grave expressions as they await the attack. The second depicts an old European village, firmly establishing the scene of an impending disaster. The art and layouts are more kinetic than usual, increasing excitement with each subsequent page. Though quickly paced, Kirby maintains a high level of detail in one of his finest silver age works. This is 86 of 116 Fantastic Four issues by Kirby.
