Abyss #1 - Bernie Wrightson art & cover, Jeff Jones art + 1st issue

Bernie Wrightson
Abyss v1 #1, 1970 - A one-color printed fanzine, Abyss boasts a fine Bernie Wrightson cover and his horrific interpretation of old nursery rhymes. Drawn with a twisted sense of humor, the pages are consistent with his bronze age mainstream works. Jeff Jones' "Union" is set in the vastness of space, minimally drawn but no less impactful. The emptiness and loneliness of the tale is palpable (see interior page below). This story was later reprinted in Ravens and Rainbows #1. Other artists in this issue include Mike Kaluta and Bruce Jones, who make significant contributions. This is 1 of 1 Abyss issues by Jones and 1 of 1 Abyss issues by Wrightson. /// key 1st issue
