Adventure Comics #491 - Don Newton art, Alex Toth, Jack Kirby reprints

Adventure Comics v1 #491, 1982 - After a brief cancellation, Adventure Comics begins again in digest form. Starting off the book is a Marvel Family tale, where an idyllic walk on the woods turns into a full scale battle against a newly formed group of super-villains. Don Newton's artwork is a fine example of dramatic lighting and composition. Kudos to Frank Chiaramonte for his splendid inking. Despite originally being drawn for a larger format, the story translates nicely to the smaller scale. Jim Aparo also contributes a new Aquaman tale. Reprints in this issue feature the Legion of Super-heroes (their first two appearances), Black Canary by Alex Toth (Adventure Comics #418) and the golden age Sandman by Jack Kirby. This is number 7 of 8 Adventure Comics issues with Newton art and/or covers.
