Adventure Comics v1 #491, 1982 - After a brief cancellation, Adventure Comics begins again in digest form. Starting off the book is a Marvel Family tale, where an idyllic walk on the woods turns into a full scale battle against a newly formed group of super-villains. Don Newton's artwork is a fine example of dramatic lighting and composition. Kudos to Frank Chiaramonte for his splendid inking. Despite originally being drawn for a larger format, the story translates nicely to the smaller scale. This story was later reprinted in Shazam! The World's Mightiest Mortal #3. This digest also includes the first two appearances of the Legion of Super-heroes (Adventure Comics #247 and #267), Black Canary by Alex Toth (Adventure Comics #418) and the golden age Sandman by Jack Kirby. This is 7 of 8 Adventure Comics issues by Newton.
