Our Army at War #120 - Joe Kubert art

Our Army at War #120
Our Army at War v1 #120 featuring Sgt. Rock, 1962 - Four stories are combined into one as Sgt. Rock explains to a new soldier how certain GIs got their nicknames. This issue marks the introduction of Bulldozer, Wild Man and Ice Cream Soldier, all recurring characters in Easy Company. In this Joe Kubert effort, the artist experiments with a checkerboard metaphor (page 3), a time-elapse sequence (page 8) and a multiple portrait triptych on the title page. Some panels are better drawn than others, but Kubert maintains a high level of detail throughout the story. This story was later reprinted in DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #18 and GI Combat #146. Other artists in this silver age comic include Russ Heath. This is 58 of 236 Our Army at War issues by Kubert.
