Marvel Spotlight v2 #5 / Dragon Lord - Steve Ditko art, Frank Miller cover

Frank Miller
Marvel Spotlight v2 #5 on Dragon Lord, 1979 - A Japanese engineer takes up the mantle of his forebears, using sorcery against a newly emerged sea monster. Steve Ditko appears to re-purpose his creature design from his 1960s Gorgo issues. His drawing style is evident throughout the pages, but lacks the polish and detail of earlier works. Ditko does best on the larger, more spacious panels (see interior page below), especially the battle between two behemoths on page 23. Frank Miller's cover exceeds the verve of the interiors. His masterful use of light and shade results in one of the best bronze age works. This is number 2 of 4 Marvel Spotlight issues with Miller art and/or covers and number 2 of 4 Marvel Spotlight issues with Ditko art and/or covers.
