Captain America #255 - John Byrne art, Frank Miller cover

Frank Miller
Captain America v1 #255, 1981 - Marking the 40th anniversary of Cap's first appearance, Frank Miller designs a sufficiently nostalgic cover, complete with the original masthead from Captain America Comics #1. John Byrne takes over the artistic chores inside, providing both pencils and inks. On the opening splash, he does his own interpretation of Jack Kirby and Joe Simon's original cover. From there, Cap's origin is retold with additional context and new details revealed. Byrne once again pays homage to Kirby on page 19, segueing into a historical two page spread. Here, Cap's image dominates against a backdrop of friends, foes, colleagues and significant events in his life. This is number 11 of 15 Captain America issues with Byrne art and/or covers and number 4 of 4 Captain America issues with Miller art and/or covers.
