World of Fantasy #2 |
World of Fantasy v1 #2, 1956 - Inspired by Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, three explorers take their submarine to the depths of the ocean floor. This tale by Al Williamson begins with a dramatically lit scene from the sub's interior. The openness of the frame contradicts the tight quarters, but adds visual appeal. Even the small panels within the story are drawn with fine, deliberate strokes, especially as the trio delves underwater (see interior page below). Here Williamson displays a natural ease with the sci-fi genre. Other artists in this golden age comic include Sol Brodsky, Jay Scott Pike, Mort Drucker, Manny Stallman, Kurt Schaffenberger, Bob Forgione and Jack Abel. Cover by Joe Maneely. This is 1 of 2 World of Fantasy issues by Williamson.
