Neal Adams |
House of Mystery v1 #199, 1972 - An ambitious scientist travels to Antarctica to discover a lost civilization under the ice.
Wally Wood opens with a splash portrait of series host Cain, a demented expression on his devilish face (see interior page below). Especially clever is how the panel borders become window frames, incorporated within the entire design. Wood's artwork is detailed, textural and well crafted. This story was later reprinted in
DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #24 and
Welcome Back to the House of Mystery #1.
Neal Adams does his last cover on the title, flatter in perspective and less compelling than usual. Among the issue's reprints, a
Jack Kirby tale from
My Greatest Adventure #17 stands out. Other artists in this bronze age comic include John Giunta and Rich Buckler. This is 20 of 26
House of Mystery issues by
Adams and 5 of 6 House of Mystery issues by
Wood.
