The Texan #4 - Matt Baker art & cover

Matt Baker golden age 1950s st. john western comic book cover art - Texan #4
Matt Baker
The Texan v1 #4, 1949 - On this action-filled cover, a female gunslinger attempts to stop a robbery in progress. The perspective is a tad questionable, but Matt Baker's artistry makes up for it. His interior story, featuring Buckskin Belle, is competently done although not extraordinary. Perhaps he was still adjusting to the emerging western genre in comics. This story was later reprinted in The Hawk #9. Other artists in this golden age comic include Howard Larsen. This is 1 of 11 Texan issues by Baker. /// Baker gallery
