Tower of Shadows #9 - Bernie Wrightson cover, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko reprints

Bernie Wrightson
Tower of Shadows v1 #9, 1971 - A hydra-headed creature emerges from a manhole on this final issue of the series. Bernie Wrightson's cover represents the lead story, an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "Pickman's Model". From the detailed background buildings to the monster's carefully delineated figure, Wrightson sets the horrific tone of the book perfectly. The Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko tales are both reprints from Strange Tales #69. Starting next issue, the series is renamed Creatures On The Loose. Other artists in this issue include Tom Palmer and Don Heck (reprint). This is number 2 of 2 Tower of Shadows issues with Wrightson art and/or covers. 1. I've heard they guy with the red shit is a self-portrait of Wrightson. If that's true, it seems likely the other guy is a specific person too.

  2. I heard that too and I think you're right. Wrightson put himself in several stories/covers during the bronze age. Anyone know who the other guy is?
