Marvel Feature v1 #1 presents The Defenders, 1971 - The
Defenders make their first appearance in this historic king-sized issue. Doctor Strange, Sub-Mariner and the Hulk join forces to stop the Omegatron, a doomsday device created by the wizard Yandroth. On the cover,
Neal Adams' depiction of the founding members is easily among his best for Marvel. The artist's skill is evident throughout, but the foreshortened limbs of the Hulk are especially convincing. I believe this cover is also Adams' first rendition of each of the characters. In addition to this origin story, a golden age Sub-Mariner reprint finishes off the book. This Roy Thomas tale, drawn by Bill Everett and Ross Andru, was later reprinted in
Marvel Treasury Edition #16. This is 1 of 1
Marvel Feature issues by
Adams. The Defenders would soon debut their own
self-titled series. ///
