The Avengers v1 #1, 1963 - Loki conspires to frame the incredible Hulk, ensnaring Thor in his devious plan in the process. His misdeeds also attract Iron Man, Ant-man and the Wasp. A series of events bring all the heroes together to form the
Avengers. On
Jack Kirby's cover, each hero (already starring in his own respective series) is prominently displayed with almost equal emphasis. Though effective at displaying all the members, the layout lacks breathing room. Inside, Kirby's work is fairly standard with numerous small, sometimes monotonous panels. One bright spot is the scene of a disguised Hulk, posing as a mechanical robot in a circus (see interior page below). Note that although the Wasp appears on the cover, her name is omitted in the roll call above the masthead / trade dress. Written by Stan Lee, this is 1 of 38
