Negro Heroes #1 |
Negro Heroes v1 #1, 1947 - A rarity in golden age comics, this first issue tells the stories of real-life famous African-Americans and their accomplishments. Among those featured are scientist George Washington Carver, singer Paul Robeson, explorer Matt Henson, educator Mary McLeod Bethune and others. Published by the National Urban League, their leadership is listed along with advisory editors, but no creative credits for the issue. An endorsement letter from boxer Joe Louis appears on the inside front cover. Sadly, the series itself ran for a mere two issues. /// key 1st issue
