Tales to Astonish #44 |
Tales to Astonish v1 #44, 1963 - Janet Van Dyne's father is killed by a space creature he inadvertently let loose upon the world. Aiding her quest for revenge, Ant Man infuses her with wasp-like abilities and joins her cause. Interestingly, this issue reveals that Henry Pym is a widower, whose wife had been kidnapped and killed in eastern Europe. Ant Man and the
Wasp would begin their professional partnership, with hints at romance in the future. This story was written by Ernie Hart (under the name H. E Huntley). Cover and story art is credited to
Jack Kirby, but it's clear he only provided layouts while Don Heck did the bulk of the work.
Steve Ditko illustrates a futuristic tale of a man carrying the plague, though it's not what you think. Precisely drawn, it's representative of Ditko's fine work on the series. ///
