Sub-Mariner v2 #1, 1968 - Continued from Iron Man and Sub-Mariner #1, Namor is trapped within a mountain of ice. While rendered immobile, recollections of the past flood his mind: the marriage of his human father and Atlantean mother, his years fighting the Nazi menace during World War Two, and the years he spent as a wandering amnesiac on the surface world. He further recalls the return of his memories, aided by the Human Torch (chronicled in Fantastic Four #6). This first issue was written by Roy Thomas and drawn by John Buscema and Frank Giacoia. Buscema's majestic cover contrasts Namor against a pattern of various scenes in the background. The artist sets a high standard for the remainder of the series. /// key 1st issue / select Buscema cover- - - - - - - - - -
