Batman #1 |
Batman v1 #1, 1940 - Two of the Caped Crusader's greatest enemies appear for the first time in separate stories. In the lead feature, the
Joker makes his first appearance, killing select people with his deadly trademark toxin. In another tale, a slew of thefts aboard an ocean liner lead the heroes to capture the Cat in disguise. Selina Kyle would change her name to
Catwoman in subsequent issues. Lastly,
Dr. Hugo Strange makes his debut in a separate third tale. This first issue also happens to reprint the Batman's origin from
Detective Comics #33 (with a new title panel). All contents are later reprinted in
Famous First Edition #F-5. These Bill Finger stories were all drawn by Bob Kane. Cover by Kane. ///
