Northwest Mounties v1 #1, 1949 - Two sisters try to fend off a rogue trapper who wants their land, just as a handsome stranger enters their midst. Rose, the feistier one, is tougher and more skillful. Matt Baker draws the story beautifully without the usual "cheesecake" poses of the era. Nicely textured and detailed, the artist seems comfortable with rural wilderness settings. Other artists in this St. John first issue include L. B. Cole and Walter Johnson. Cover by Bob Lubbers.
