Star Wars #53 - Walt Simonson art & cover

Walt Simonson
Star Wars v1 #53, 1981 - Trying to determine the Empire's interest in a remote star system, Leia lands on a warrior planet that uses both medieval and advanced weaponry. Interestingly, the characters seem to be a homage to Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter, Warlord of Mars series. Walt Simonson's cover uses a circular composition and features his recognizable line work. Inside, Simonson shares credit for the pencils with Carmine Infantino, who appears to do the bulk of the work. Unfortunately, Simonson's hand is mostly absent from any of the story pages. This is 7 of 18 Star Wars issues by Simonson.
