Creepy #114 - Alex Toth, Jim Starlin art

Creepy v1 #114, 1980 - After centuries of strife, tiny elves finally declare war on humanity. Jim Starlin's style is suited for this fantasy tale, but Pablo Marcos' inking reaps few benefits if any. Alex Toth tells of a man stricken with terminal cancer who plans on revenge. In this extraordinary work, the artist's lack of detailing is compensated by meticulously designed panels and pages. Each page is laid out differently, sometimes using open panels and insets. Toth uses high contrast divisions of black and white areas to increase drama and boldness (see interior page below) in one of his best works of the late bronze age. Other artists in this bronze age magazine include Danny Tallerno and Leo Duranona. This is number 1 of 2 Creepy issues by Starlin and 11 of 15 Creepy issues by Toth.
