Epic Illustrated v1 #7, 1981 - In the latest installments of Jim Starlin's science fiction epic, Aknaton reveals the history of the Zygoteans and their rise to power across the galaxy. Vanth Dreadstar and his fellow rebels subsequently find themselves under attack from these same conquerers. The artist uses montaged scenes to create a historical timeline, one of Starlin's specialties. Both chapters are rich in color and detail. Barry Smith's beautiful cover showcases his neoclassical style, coinciding with his interview inside. Most significant is Neal Adams' "Holocaust", a blend of science-fiction and social commentary within a sixteen page narrative. Both his drawing and compositional skills are exceptional, placing this work among his best of the 1980s. My only criticism is I would have preferred the story remain intact rather than divided into two separated sections. Other artists in this magazine include John Bolton.
