Star Spangled War Stories v1 #76, 1958 - One of Joe Kubert's early covers on this series, a lone GI fends off an enemy plane while being rescued. Using a central figure to fill the entire layout was a common practice, but Kubert's draftsmanship seems to waver. Given the looseness of the rendition, perhaps Mort Drucker assisted in some way? Other artists in this golden age comic include Jerry Grandenetti, Ross Andru and Mike Esposito. This is 20 of 96 Star Spangled War issues by Kubert.
