Queen of the West Dale Evans #18
Queen of the West Dale Evans v1 #18, 1958 - In the first of two Russ Manning tales, a newly unemployed teenager makes a futile, half-hearted attempt at a bank robbery. The second story chronicles a tornado blowing through Mineral City, creating enough havoc for two prison inmates to escape. Manning's artwork is superlative as usual on this series. Both stories appear to have a tad more detail, especially on the larger panels. Panel and page compositions are complex but well organized. On a side note, the single page text story "Silent Partner" has an illustration similar to Alex Toth, but more likely another artist copying his style. I'd welcome other opinions. Photo cover.
