Marvel Comics Presents #81 - Barry Windsor Smith art & cover, Steve Ditko, Marshall Rogers / Al Williamson art

Barry Windsor Smith
Marvel Comics Presents Weapon X v1 #81, 1991 - Like the previous issue, Steve Ditko's Captain America tale seems more comic than serious in tone. Just as disappointing is Marshall Rogers’ Daredevil feature. Stiff and lacking spontaneity, the artwork mostly dulls the senses (despite Al Williamson's inks). By contrast, Barry Smith's latest Wolverine chapter is visually striking. The mutant fends off an army on the opening splash, colored blood red for intensity. The following pages are tamer, building up to the climactic second splash. This story was reprinted in the Weapon X trade paperback. Other artists in this issue include James Fry and Mike Mignola. This is 1 of 3 Marvel Comics Presents issues by Ditko, 1 of 1 Marvel Comics Presents issues by Rogers, 10 of 13 Marvel Comics Presents issues by Smith and 2 of 10 Marvel Comics Presents issues by Williamson. /// Smith gallery
