Our Army at War v1 #136, 1963 - Desperate to impress his girl back home, a young GI asks Sgt. Rock for a chance to do a heroic deed. Joe Kubert keeps the story lively with his usual frenetically engaging style. The artist breaks up the typical page grid, varying sizes and proportions. The open panel on page 3 (see interior page below) makes a perfect segue into one of Rock's two narrative tales. Kubert tries experimenting with the cover layout, emphasizing a strong vertical view. This story was later reprinted in
DC 100-Page Super Spectacular DC-#16. Other artists in this silver age comic include Jack Abel. This is 73 of 236
