Western Outlaws v2 #9 - Joe Kubert art

Western Outlaws v2 #9
Western Outlaws v2 #9, 1954 - Much to the ire of the sheriff, an outlaw commits a string of thefts and avoids being caught. Joe Kubert delivers a disappointing work, lacking in effort snd poorly composed. Glimpses of his style emerges sporadically, but for the most part his pencils are buried beneath an insensitive inker's hand. Other artists in this golden age comic include Joe Sinnott, Bill Everett and Don Heck. Cover by Joe Maneely. This is 1 of 1 Western Outlaws v2 issues by Kubert.

I really like this cover, the cowering antagonist and the slightly effete marshal, he look as if he's about to dance. The pasodoble of course, there's not much ambiguity over roles here, the matador and bull are clearly defined.

Joe Maneely did a fine job and is one of the most underrated artists at Atlas, in my opinion.
