John Wayne Adventure Comics #2 - Al Williamson / Frank Frazetta art

John Wayne Adventure Comics #2
John Wayne Adventure Comics v1 #2, 1950 - After stealing a legendary pair of six-shooters, the fastest gunman in town challenges John Wayne to a duel at dawn. Al Williamson's artwork is far superior to the rest of the book, even in capturing the actor's likeness. That said, the mediocre layouts and lack of sufficient backgrounds make this story less than ideal. Frank Frazetta's inks certainly enhance the pencils (especially the characters' faces) but not nearly enough. This story was later reprinted in John Wayne Adventure Comics #31. Interestingly, the issue also includes two more Williamson / Frazetta pages, revealing western gunfighting techniques. This was later reprinted in Billy the Kid Adventure Magazine #1. This is 1 of 6 John Wayne Adventure issues by Frazetta and 1 of 6 John Wayne Adventure issues by Williamson.
