Batman #306 - Don Newton art

Batman v1 #306, 1978 - Concluding an "Unsolved Case of the Batman", a master of disguise blackmails the hero while conducting a murder spree. Don Newton's placement of light and shadow is splendid, typical of his best bronze age works. Lesser known are his occasional free-form montages, used to great effect on the opening splash. A gold wedding band, its accompanying box, a previous scene and the Batman himself are conjoined in a united layout. Other artists in this issue include John Calnan, Dave Hunt and Jim Aparo. This is number 2 of 34 Batman issues with Newton art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Newton or Batman issues. See also this blog's Don Newton checklist.
