Buster Crabbe #5 - Frank Frazetta cover, Al Williamson art

Frank Frazetta
Buster Crabbe v1 #5, 1952 - The actor's adventures move from westerns to science fiction tales with this issue. Although Frank Frazetta struggles with Buster Crabbe's likeness, his rendering skills are supreme. The strong composition is reinforced by fine details on the figures. Note the attention to detail with the aliens' hair, which makes them seem more unkempt and brutish. In Al Williamson's tale, Buster and Whiskers are spirited away to Mars, whose populace intends to conquer Earth. Despite the inane plot, the artist does an admirable job with the exotic femme fatale and her planet's futuristic landscapes. This is 3 of 5 Buster Crabbe issues by Frazetta and 3 of 3 Buster Crabbe issues by Williamson. /// Frazetta gallery
