Marvel Preview v1 #4 presents Star-Lord, 1976 - When his mother is murdered by aliens, young Peter Quill uses his anger to become a top notch astronaut. Intent on revenge, he accepts the invitation of a diety in space to become a powerful new force in the universe. Written by Steve Englehart, Star Lord's origin is drawn by Steve Gan and Bob McLeod. Unmentioned in some comic book guides, the inside front cover boasts terrific Bernie Wrightson art. The drawing itself works well in black and white, depicting a battle in mountainous high altitude. The large, worm-like creature is very characteristic of Wrightson's monsters, full of mass and grotesqueness. Note the masterful fine lines on the mountain itself, contrasting delicate grasses with the harsh rock formations. This issue also includes artwork by Ed Hannigan, Rick Bryant and P. Craig Russell.
