Angel and the Ape #3 |
Angel and the Ape v1 #3, 1969 - This issue parodies the old horror movie theme of a remote castle, a cast of seedy characters, and a hidden killer in their midst. With few a exceptions, the artwork is devoid of splash pages and large panels. Certain pages look more crowded than others, resulting in a lengthier read. Wally Wood's finely crafted inks enhance the already stellar pencils of Bob Oksner, one of the artists of the humor genre. Wood has a strong, recognizable presence in this issue, like most of his inking during the bronze age. A few tastefully drawn cheesecake panels of Angel O' Day (in a nurse's uniform no less) should impress enthusiasts of comic book good girl art. Other artists in this silver age comic include cover illustrator Bob Oksner. This is 2 of 5 Angel and the Ape issues by Wood.
