Authentic Police Cases v1 #13 st john crime comic book cover art by Matt Baker
Matt Baker
Authentic Police Cases v1 #13, 1951 - A pair of jewel thieves make short work of the wealthy homes along Florida's gold coast. Matt Baker's art meets expectations, conveying both the extravagant and the rural settings in this crime story. Even the small panels provide plenty of visual information. As usual, his figure drawings are as precise as they are beautiful. Ironically, page five panel four depicts one of the few African-Americans (like Baker himself) portrayed in comics. Baker's unrelated cover features a courtroom drama, where anger and intensity are effectively conveyed by the defendant's figure. Note also the obligatory attractive woman in the background. Other artists in this golden age crime comic include Ralph Lane. This is 8 of 28 Authentic Police Cases issues by Baker.
