| Brave and the Bold #165 |
Brave and the Bold v1 #165, 1980 - The grotesque anti-hero Man-Bat steals a drug to heal his child's illness, only to find the Batman blocking his path. Jim Aparo's cover of Man-Bat flying with a baby in tow is one of silliest I've ever seen, but the scene does not appear in the story (thank goodness).
Don Newton's sometimes monotonous layouts are largely offset by his beautiful penciling. The artwork is especially good on pages 9, 15 and 16, including the darkened conversation between Commissioner Gordon and Batman (see interior page below). The story is superbly inked by one of the artist's most frequent collaborators, Dan Adkins. This is 3 of 3

I'd have loved to have seen the Man-bat pushing a stroller, maybe in front of a laundromat. Cover by longtime Batman artist Jim Aparo.
