1984 #1 - Alex Nino, Wally Wood art + 1st issue

1984 #1
1984 (magazine) v1 #1, 1978 - Warren premieres its first science fiction magazine, laden with adult-themed writing and artwork. Wally Wood's tale reflects his preference for the fantasy genre, populating the pages with elves, ogres, swordsmen and voluptuous women. Medieval villages, castles and forests comprise most of the settings, each drawn with intricate detail. Alex Nino draws two stories, one about a woman's disembodiment due to a train accident and a half-man, half-machine looking for his mother. The first employs layouts with bold vertical panels, the second in an amorphus, free-floating design. Both showcase a mastery of pacing and design. This issue also includes artwork by Rudy Nebres, Esteban Maroto, Jose Ortiz, Alfredo Alcala, Joe Vaultz, Luis Bermejo and Richard Corben. This is 1 of 10 1984 issues by Nino and 1 of 3 1984 issues by Wood. /// key 1st issue / Nino gallery
