1984 #1 - Alex Nino, Wally Wood art

1984 (magazine) v1 #1, 1978 - Warren premieres its first science fiction magazine, laden with adult-themed writing and artwork. Wally Wood's tale reflects his preference for the fantasy genre, populating the pages with elves, ogres, swordsmen and voluptuous women. Medieval villages, castles and forests comprise most of the settings, each drawn with intricate detail. Alex Nino's story is about a woman's disembodiment due to a train accident. Her unnatural state is perfectly suited to the artist's disturbing style. His layouts are boldly oriented in a vertical format, showcasing a mastery of page design. Other artists in this issue include Rudy Nebres, Esteban Maroto, Jose Ortiz, Alfredo Alcala, Joe Vaultz, Luis Bermejo and Richard Corben. This is number 1 of 10 1984 magazine issues with Nino art and/or covers and 1 of 3 1984 magazine issues with Wood art and/or covers.
