House of Mystery #225 |
House of Mystery v1 #225, 1974 - Only the second 100 pager of the series, this issue boasts an intro page by Bernie Wrightson. A cool, atmospheric quality surrounds Cain and his pet gargoyle. In Alex Nino's tale, a devious prisoner calls upon Satan to make him invisible to all. Long vertical and horizontal panels add to the distorted nature of work. Some of the textural effects, such as the first page, lack definition but the artist maintains clarity on most pages. In this case, Nino's layouts may be better than the drawings themselves. Among the reprints, a Jack Kirby tale from House of Secrets #4 stands out from the pack. Other artists in this issue include Frank Thorne, E.R. Cruz and Alfredo Alcala. Cover by Luis Dominguez. This is 6 of 14 House of Mystery issues by Nino and 24 of 28 House of Mystery issues by Wrightson. /// Nino gallery
