Spyman #1 - mis-attributed Jim Steranko art, partial cover + 1st Spyman

Jim Steranko
Spyman v1 #1, 1966 - Making his first appearance, Spyman blends espionage with super-heroics. Due to a run-in with villains, Johnny Chance's hand is destroyed but soon replaced by a super-powered electro-robot hand. Prominently displayed on the cover, Jim Steranko's drawing explains each of the various features. Comic guides mark this issue as the artist's first start in comics, but he drew only the cover diagram (which is repeated inside). His first full artwork is in the following issue. "Birth of a Hero", written by Steranko and drawn by George Tuska, Mike Esposito and Carl Pfeufer, also introduces his nemesis the Whisperer. A one page Goodyear Aerospace ad by Neal Adams begins the issue. This is 1 of 2 Spyman issues by Steranko. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover, 1st origin Spyman, Whisperer 1st issue / original cover

There's something very Kirbyish about the central figure in the red suit, don't you think?

Yes, and the fact that Kirby did some stuff for Harvey during this period makes me wonder. The background figures are Tuska for sure, but did Kirby provide a rough layout? Or was Tuska emulating Kirby? I'm guessing the latter.
