Hawk and the Dove #2 - Steve Ditko art & cover

Hawk and the Dove v1 #2 dc comic book cover art by Steve Ditko
Steve Ditko
Hawk and the Dove v1 #2, 1968 - An enlarged Hawk looks on while his brother fends for himself on this forceful Steve Ditko cover. The symbolism continues with a superbly composed opening splash of a jailbreak scene, intentionally set between two metaphorical birds. Each page is drawn with great care and purpose. Most arresting is the split view of the heroes in pursuit of two escaped convicts (see interior page below). It effectively displays four separate scenes at once, before converging on the following pages. By next issue, Ditko would hand over the artistic reins to the capable Gil Kane. This is number 2 of 2 Hawk and the Dove issues with Ditko art and/or covers.
