Alarming Adventures #1 |
Alarming Adventures v1 #1, 1962 - Better known for their
Casper and
Richie Rich titles, this
first issue is among Harvey Publications' early forays into science fiction genre. A surprisingly well drawn Reed Crandall story anchors this issue, beautifully inked by
Al Williamson. The opening panel of a spaceship approaching a cratered planet is comparable to some of his best stories for EC during the 1950s. His skill in this genre is impeccable and evident in many of the pages. This issue also includes artwork by George Tuska and Bernard Baily. Cover by John Severin. This is 1 of 3

The art resembles EC at it's best, but certainly not the story. It's almost comical: page 2 panel 3 a marriage proposal is rejected; he responds "Yeah, sure...sure"!
