Hot Wheels #4
Hot Wheels v1 #4, 1970 - Tank's grandfather will lose his life, unless he and Jack Wheeler can drive through a massive thunderstorm to get him an antidote. Alex Toth both pencils and inks the first of two issues, using his storytelling skills to their fullest. His opening pages hint at the oncoming storm, cleverly using a time-stamped clock between panels. Most spectacular are his images of the characters driving through a torrential downpour (pages 9-14). The harsh lighting and obscure viewpoints put the reader in the proverbial driver's seat. Cover by Ric Estrada and Dick Giordano. This is 4 of 5 Hot Wheels issues by Toth. /// Toth gallery
