Witching Hour #10 - Neal Adams cover, Alex Toth art

Neal Adams
Witching Hour v1 #10, 1970Neal Adams delivers his best cover of the series, inspired by a scene in the interior Alex Toth story. He creates an exceptionally eerie mood with a minimum of elements. The overwhelming use of black makes the highlights on the old man stand out even more. The story chronicles the life of a man who cruelly toyed with women in his youth. Toth delivers an exceptional work of finely rendered illustrations. The title page splash (see interior page below) is a masterpiece of composition. Foreground objects increase depth while drawing the reader in. Toth's simple framing pages suffer by comparison. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Gray Morrow. This is 5 of 8 Witching Hour issues by Adams and 8 of 10 Witching Hour issues by Toth. /// Toth gallery
