House of Mystery #221 - Bernie Wrightson art & cover

Bernie Wrightson dc bronze age horror 1970s comic book cover - House of Mystery #221
Bernie Wrightson
House of Mystery v1 #221, 1973 - Bernie Wrightson's disturbing cover places a skeleton on an otherwise festive children's merry-go-round. His accompanying story centers around an orphaned girl, a struggling circus and a talented clown. Each page is lovingly drawn, softened and modeled by Mike Kaluta's inks. This story was later reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing #4 and DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #17. This splendid effort also makes an interesting comparison to Shadow #3, where Wrightson takes a turn in inking Kaluta's pencils. Other artists in this issue include Frank Thorne. See an original page from this story. This is number 23 of 27 House of Mystery issues with Wrightson art and/or covers (not including reprints). This issue is also included in this Wrightson gallery.
