House of Mystery #221 - Bernie Wrightson art & cover

Bernie Wrightson
House of Mystery v1 #221, 1973 - Bernie Wrightson's disturbing cover places a skeleton on an otherwise festive children's merry-go-round. His accompanying story centers around an orphaned girl, a struggling circus and a talented clown. Each page is lovingly drawn, softened and modeled by Mike Kaluta's inks. This story was later reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing #4. This splendid effort also makes an interesting comparison to Shadow #3, where Wrightson takes a turn in inking Kaluta's pencils Other artists in this issue include Frank Thorne. This is number 23 of 27 House of Mystery issues with Wrightson art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Wrightson or House of Mystery issues.
