Adventures on the Planet of the Apes #1 - mis-attributed Jim Starlin cover & Mike Ploog art

Adventures on the Planet of the Apes #1

Adventures on the Planet of the Apes v1 #1, 1975
- Overstreet's Comic Book Price Guide credits this cover to Jim Starlin, but other sources disagree. After closer examination, the details seem to point to Rich Bucker and Joe Sinnott. Inside this issue is the movie adaptation from Planet of the Apes magazine, reprinted here in color for the first time. There is no Mike Ploog art, despite what some comic book guides say. The artist's work does appear in 10 issues of Planet of the Apes magazine. Other artists in this bronze age science fiction comic include George Tuska and Mike Esposito.

I don't believe this cover is by Starlin. I can't think of a comic where he ever drew horses. The two gorilla faces on the right look like John Buscema - as does the posing of the gorilla on the yellow horse.

I agree this is not Starlin, but disagree about Buscema. Most likely the cover pencils are Rich Bucker. Thanks for your input, and prompting me to correct the record.
