X-Men v1 #134, 1980 - Breaking free of Mastermind's control, Phoenix turns the tables on Sebastian Shaw and the rest of the Hellfire Club. Unfortunately, manipulation of her persona awakens something new and infinitely more powerful. Meticulously drawn and detailed, Jean Grey's portrayal is noticeably darker and more sinister. Terry Austin's inks seem more textural as well, adding depth and interest. John Byrne concludes one storyline with gusto but segues into the next with a breathtaking splash of Dark Phoenix. This is 26 of 35 X-men issues by Byrne.
