X-Men #130 - John Byrne art

X-men v1 #130 marvel comic book cover art by John Byrne
X-Men v1 #130, 1980 - Dazzler, a disco/nightclub singer that's also a mutant, makes her debut in this issue. Almost immediately, she and the X-men become targets of the Hellfire Club. Compared to the garish cover, John Byrne's initial page is more subtle and sophisticated. Cyclops, Phoenix and Nightcrawler emerge from a limo parked in a seedy neighborhood. The story title is rendered in neon, perfectly foreshadowing the new heroine. Byrne's smooth streamlining enhances the storytelling without sacrificing the artwork. Other artists in this issue include John Romita Jr. (cover). This is number 22 of 35 X-men issues with Byrne art and/or covers.
