5. Kull the Destroyer v1 #11, 1973 - After a brief cancellation, Marvel revives this sword-and-sorcery series second only to Conan the Barbarian. Mike Ploog, better known for his horror comics, seems to have a style equally befitting the genre. The ancient and primitive settings are made more so by his rough, visceral drawings. Among the many highlights: the extraordinary portraits of Kull, sitting pensively on the throne (see interior page below) and defying an entire invading army (page 27). Ploog is at his finest, setting a new standard for the genre. This is 1 of 5 Kull issues by Ploog. /// Top 10 Ploog comics / Ploog gallery / original page
