Weird Mystery Tales v1 #1, 1972 -
Destiny makes his first appearance as the series host in this title, introducing each of the bronze age horror tales. Decades later, Neil Gaiman would resurrect him as a character in his award-winning
Sandman series. Credited in comic guides for the opening splash,
Bernie Wrightson only draws a portion of the page. Framing the main story, the artwork is capable but disappointing in its execution. "Horoscope Phenomenon" is a
Jack Kirby work, originally done for
Spirit World magazine. It retains a documentary feel with nightmarish qualities. Although reduced in size to fit the regular comic book format, the change is offset by the addition of color. This issue also includes artwork by Jack Abel. Cover by Michael Kaluta. This is 1 of 3
