Weird Mystery Tales #1 - Jack Kirby, Bernie Wrightson art

Weird Mystery Tales v1 #1, 1972 - Credited in price guides for the opening splash, Bernie Wrightson only draws Destiny (the series host), sharing space with Jack Kirby's title page. Originally done for Spirit World magazine, "Horoscope Phenomenon" retains a documentary feel with nightmarish qualities. The pages were reduced in size to fit the regular comic book format, but has little impact on Kirby's largely competent artwork. Same goes for the fact that it was originally designed in black and white. The addition of color is typically an improvement in comics and this case is no exception. Other artists in this issue include Jack Abel. Cover by Michael Kaluta. This is number 1 of 2 Weird Mystery Tales issues with Wrightson art and/or covers and number 1 of 3 Weird Mystery Tales issues with Kirby art and/or covers.
