Neal Adams |
Avengers v1 #96, 1972 - With two members held captive in another galaxy, the Avengers must confront the entire Skrull armada before attempting their rescue. The brutality of
Neal Adams' cover suggests the story's high stakes and high tension. Inside, the artist shares inking responsibilities with Tom Palmer and Al Weiss, whose styles are not dissimilar. Two splash pages establish the outer space setting, but suggest enormous scale as well. Adams does his finest work on the series, infusing each panel with bold craftsmanship. Among the many highlights: the Avengers' coordinated attack on a Skrull warship (see interior page below) and Captain America's explosive arrival on page 9. This bronze age story was later reprinted in
Kree-Skrull War #2. This is 5 of 5
Avengers issues by
Adams.
