Phantom Stranger v2 #4, 1969 - The sorceress
Tala is introduced, serving as an antagonist and romantic interest to the Phantom Stranger.
Neal Adams' second cover of the series is typically enticing. His interior story art begins well enough, but his pencils are diminished by insensitive inking. Much of the spontaneity is lost, although the layouts are intact and recognizable. Thankfully, Adams begins inking on page eighteen and the story takes on new life. The final five pages are extraordinary in their execution, making up for the lackluster start. Among these is a full page splash (see interior page below) drawn with an intensity rarely seen in his work. This is 2 of 17
