Groo the Wanderer v1 #1, 1982 - With this first issue, the dumbest barbarian of all begins his own self-titled series. This parody of Conan the Barbarian first appeared in Destroyer Duck #1. Sergio Aragones, a longtime contributor to Mad magazine, creates an anti-hero who inadvertently creates disasters in his wake. The artist employs a panoramic two-page spread at the start of each feature, a technique that would continue throughout the series. In this Groo appears on his first cover and first full length story. Writing credits to Aragones and Mark Evanier, art & cover by Aragones. /// key 1st cover Groo, 1st issue- - - - - - - - - -
